Spices

Spices have been used in cooking since before the birth of Christ.

The first evidence of spices is from 5000BC. Aromatically scented herbal products have been used since ancient times to flavour foods and for preparing incenses and perfumes.

Spices can be loosely categorised into three groups:

1. Herbs: Sage and Rosemary

2. Aromatic Seeds: Aniseed or Caraway

3. Spices: Pepper and Nutmeg
